Zoning Department

The objective of the Zoning Department is to keep the semi-rural character and ambiance that the residents value and enjoy.

The Zoning Department of Russell Township is charged with the responsibility to assist and enforce the Township's Zoning Resolution.  The Zoning Resolution is a reflection of the Township's Comprehensive Land Use Guide Plan, a survey completed by Russell residents every 20 years indicating the type of community character and quality of life issues they seek in their surroundings.

Zoning History - Zoning was first implemented in the Township in 1949. Ninety-eight percent of Russell Township is zoned for residential use. There are two districts for commercial/office use. The first district is at the intersection of State Route 306 and State Route 87. The second is at State Route 306 and Music Street. Zoning for park purposes consist of active park use and passive park use. The remainder of Russell Township is currently zoned for large lot residential use for three and five acre minimum lot sizes.
