ODOT Seeks Comments on Slope Stabilization Project on SR 87 in Russell Township, Geauga County

PID: 92223

(Friday, July 17, 2026) – Cleveland, Ohio

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is proposing a project to stabilize the slope along SR 87 (Kinsman Rd.) westbound between Russell Rd. and Hillbrook Ln. E. in Russell Township, Geauga County. The project will also perform various drainage repairs located within the project limits. The project is necessary to address ongoing slope instability and erosion.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the fall of 2027 and estimated to be completed in the fall of 2028. Construction will require a full detour for a duration of eight months. The detour will be SR 91 to U.S. 322 to SR 306.  Access to properties within the project limits will be maintained through the duration of construction.

Ecological impacts to two streams from the replacement of the two culverts during construction. All practicable measures have been considered and incorporated into the project design to minimize the impacts to the streams as best as possible. Waterway permit will be obtained.

The project is not expected to have any Section 4(f)/6(f), cultural resources, or regulated materials impacts.

The estimated construction cost is $700,000
